Oil Leak

Anyone ever have issues with their oil filter cap leaking oil? Mine is very slight but still enough to give that burnt oil smell when I slow down. I was thinking of just ordering a new aluminum cap with O ring but just thought I would ask and see if anyone has a simple fix. (I'm currently running the OEM cap)

Do you replace the o-rings on the cap when you change your oil?

I've only seen it on cars that had pretty old o-rings and such. You could try a new cap, it might have a small hairline crack in it that's hard to see.

I would guess you've got another leak causing your burnt oil smell. I don't think anything in the vicinity of your filter gets hot enough to burn oil, unless it's a large leak.

I have the original cap at 176,000 miles. No issues.

What filter did you get? How many pounds of torque did you apply to the cap upon install? Did you replace the old O-ring and apply some oil to the new one prior to install?
