Despite having moved over to the darkside from Audi, I still think they have the nicest designs. I loved the look of my S5 Sportback but the driving dynamics of the M340i win hands down. That RS7 would definitely draw me back in if I had the means lol.

I've always liked the styling inside and out of Audi's. They always do interiors better than BMW but the driving experience is always sterile compared to BMW and MB.

I'm actually liking the layout, materials, comfort, and ergonomics of my M340i more than the S4 and S5 I owned. To look at they seem nicer, but the G20 gives you a much more cocooned feeling and there are far less pops and cracks when the plastics are expanding and contracting (new vs new). I think BMW is near the top in interior quality now (design is obviously subjective).

Audi has never excelled at materials in my opinion. They rarely add stitching to door cards like MB and BMW and just put in a flat panel with no details, very bare in its design. On the higher end cars they fix this with suede inserts but they rarely have a leather dash, especially those Q8's that are $80k are all spec'd at dealers with the plastic dash, just feels cheap. Audi fit and finish is pretty good, but I think BMW is top in build quality (although they haven't fixed the rattles), just wish they would stop cheaping out on the plastics, was one of the factors that turned my wife off of the X3, too much hard plastic where the GLC either had soft touch or leather/leatherette with stitching.

Agreed. There's definitely a trade off with all of the 3 German automakers when it comes to interior. Personally, I find that BMW does the best balance, but I also understand that they come across a little bland. Mercedes and Audi are more striking, but then you have Audi that doesn't use a lot of leather on areas that they should (like you said), and then you have MB who have very opulent look and feel to their interiors but some quality issues arise (creaking, popping, etc. of anything you touch too hard). Nothing is perfect that's for sure. It's down to what is more important to you in an interior.

Agreed, I knew going in that my CLS wasn't going to be as sturdy or tough as the 5er but I made the trade off purely because I hated the drive in the 5er and was willing to sacrifice a little leather here or there for a better driving car with some more exciting style, and I lease anyways so it wouldn't be a long-term issue.

Luckily I haven't been plagued with any rattles or creaking issues on mine in 20k miles, only time I can get it to creak is if I deliberately put force on the lower trim which I never do anyways.

RS6 is the best example of a station wagon. But it's still a station wagon.

I just never liked wagons. Either a Car or a full blown SUV.
It takes away once you get to the back for me.

I'm the same. Never liked wagons. I'd take a sedan version any day of the week.

So what kills it for me with SUVs is that they aren't sporty, as in performance-based. They are lifted, so going around curves, etc., not on the same planet. If you lower it or use wheels to "fill" the wells, then it just looks even more ridiculous or has no real "SUV" capability. They are also like a brick in the wind comparatively. So to me, an SUV is more like a truck. But to each their own.

The reason why I like a wagon is that it's like having that SUV for the practicality/capability/cargo volume, but all the sporty-ness of a performance car. Having my cake and eating it too.

I see your point and the appeal to some for a wagon.

I would also say driving a 2017 on up X5M would probably shock you with it's over all abilities.

There's a guy here that races his trackhawk on the track. It is shocking how fast it can go, especially from a dig. It took me a while to be faster than him. But then again, I'm not all that much of a "straight line" guy, give me some turns.

Recently got my wife an Audi Q8 And have fallen in love with Audi. It’s fresh and not stale like BMW these last 10 years. Had 10 BMWs in a row but now it’s Audi’s turn. The RS6 Avant is beyond awesome.
