Help required

Hi guys. I have an ccc-Android screen / head unit installed running Android 9. I recently tried to clear up my apps (In the file manager) and it looks like I may have deleted an important file. As the Idrive will now not function in the android mode. I have tried all factory and system resets. I cant find any reference to sourcing and installing the missing file.I would appreciate any advice

Have you tried doing a firmware upgrade

Its the latest unit 4G Ram 64 G memory was Android 9 Now Android 10 This is the second one I have installed .Its quote an easy DIY

I have one of the much earlier ones that is pretty useless. The Idrive works only on the top level menu then i use the touch screen. I use it for JB4 dashboard and I have a CarPlay dongle that does the rest. The sound is pretty bad so i play my music through the bmw CD player. The dongle only maps the left Idrive gesture.

Is the new android better?

I also had the earlier model.This one is much better There are a lot of little variation that needed to be sorted. I have front and rear camera A separate DVD player and also a separate DAB interface which also runs an old iPhone as an Ipod in the centre consul cradle. I use the android interface tethered to my Phone The later units also have provision for a dedicated phone sim which I don't use. The latest models are much better ( get android 10 with 4G Ram 64 G memory) Music quality whilst not audiophile is vastly improved. Interfacing with I drive is also better. I use additional apps that I have downloaded as these tend to launch functions that don't load into the original UI. The only issues I have is the wifi and Bluetooth connections can be a bit flakey and I'd like to work out how to get functions like front camera to launch in the original UI. They cost around A$500 -$600 mainly on Amazon (Read the specifications carefully as you won't get any support. Frankly there all resellers and don't have any real technical knowledge. Thats my assesment .Hope it helps !

Gerry. Thanks for the advice. Do you have CarPlay, if so how? I assume your Dab only works through your OEM sound system and old interface? When you say the drive is better, what do you mean? I gave up on running apps like waze and Spotify because they were too buggy on the old system. CarPlay kinda negates the need for those apps. If you can run CarPlay successfully without a dongle and if the i drive, dash and steering buttons actually work, i would be ready to buy the upgrade.

The screen versions of android boxes tend to be buggy but got better as time went on. For CCC cars that's the only option as the screens aren't great resolution. For those with CIC the android boxes that keep the original screen seem to be a lot better

Take a look at zero to 60 YouTube channel they have videos on both

Wow thanks for the advice. What an excellent video and what a great product. It is perfect except i wouldn't be able to run my jb4 dashboard or now the mhd dashboard. I have ccc so it's not an option anyway. If i could get even close with to that level of integration with an android unit, I'd be be ecstatic.
