Carbon build up or injector problem?
So yesterday my 335d started to feel like it was misfiring then a CEL popped up for P02CE for cylinder 2. My car has 77K miles on it and I知 not sure if it痴 a CBU problem or just an injector needing to be replaced. Any help would be great on what I should do to try to remedy the problem.

To be sure that is CBU, you have to run the test shown in this post:

yup that's what all my research suggest. I bought my car 2 weeks ago and next day after purchase got the same code. Mine is 2010 with 52k miles so obviously a short trip car. Pulled intake and it's pretty dirty. I'm in the midst of CBU full delete and tune. I found a TSB: SI B13-04-14 that suggests not to throw injectors at this problem rather to CBU and reset crankshaft increment wheel adaptations.
Hope it works. I'll keep you posted. I probably won't be back together for 2 more weeks. Going with DUDMD tune, VFSR down pipe, gut SCR AARodriguez race pipe and swirl delete. Did new vacuum lines. Harmonic balancer looks good. Crossing fingers it goes back together and runs great. |

I can now say it痴 probably CBU. I removed my JBD that was set to 100% and drove it for a week and the code is now gone. So I guess next weekend I will do an intake and egr cleaning and I might take a toothbrush at the valves to get some of it off. I知 also going to replace my Tstat while in there.

Jbd at 100% is not good, it can exceed the pressure that the sensor can detect. This leads to the relief valve opening and can cause issues. 70% is a good number
Example: good case 75% Offset pressure by 200 bar... So max dde request of 1600 is really 1800 at the sensor. Still within safe range of the relief valve of about 1950- 2000bar Let's say 100% offsets pressure by 400bar. Sensor can't sense past 2000 bar, so it will max out... While dde sees "1600". You're exceeding the relief valve pressure and the sensor limit, so there's no regulation of rail pressure by dde/sensor. It opens the relief valve which after so many times will not seal well because it's just there for safety/emergency. That's why I hate the jbd, and a few have logged that past 80% there are no gains... In some cases losses because the relief is not as smooth regulating pressure as the electronic controls which are exceeded past 80% Last edited by robnitro; 04-21-2019 at 06:48 PM.. |

Do a full CBU walnut blast it's really not that hard. Hardest part is getting setup but when you have someone to guide you it's actually not bad. $29 Harbor Freight walnut blaster, make a copper tube modification to the gun. And I got a $120 Teslong endoscope inspection camera on Amazon which is so useful not only for CBU but seeing other tight areas. Cleaning intake is really easy too. Dip in 100% Purple Power degreaser and get a small pump to flow the degreaser thru over night it comes out of the solution like new next morning. No scrubbing. Anyone who feels they want to do this yourself PM me for my # and I'll walk you thru it. It really helps to have a coach. Best part is you will know it was done right cause I'll tell you what some Indy shops will cheat you and do a crappy job and you will still be getting codes. Ask me how I know. |

Sorry for the noob questions, I really have been using the search button. What is the JBD? How do I reset the adaptations per the SI? Is it as simple as doing one of these? For those who have the same questions, I found this post from Mike325tds was very helpful below. ISTA+ was a beast to find the correct files, but the installation documentation is easy to follow. I had an issue changing some INI files for my K/DCAN cable to usb. Youtube search was helpful there.
Those aside, please please use a battery charger! I was pushing 4.1 amps to the battery with a bluetooth RC grade charger. I was stable around 12.2 volts until I began accessing the control modules. Even with the charger I could see the voltage sag .1-.2 volts. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showp...68&postcount=4 Quote:

CBU typically "is" an injector problem - the 2 go hand-in-hand. Walnut blasting is not a recommended cleaning method for fouled injector tips. You can get them properly serviced at a Bosch-licensed pump shop if it's a lower mileage unit, but injectors are wear items and deserve to be replaced in any CBU situation over your high mileage comfort zone.
