"Service Engine Soon" Light On Only At 4,100 Miles?

Hello to all my friends at E90. I got up today to go to work, went outside and like I always do, I went to go warm up my car 15 minutes before I leave. Went I started the car the engine revved on its own 3 times and it didn't sound good. Then I noticed the "Service engine soon" light on. At 4,100 miles though? Im going to New Century today, but what should I be prepared for? By the way, the car ran fine on my way to work this morning.
Thx in advance.

does it matter? if anythings broke it isnt your fault haha..regardless warming your car up 15 mins before you leave in cali is pointless..just get in..let it idle for 30 seconds and go..

Hi,

Idling the car that long probably set off some OBD II code. In general, modern cars should not be "warmed up"; a few seconds to get oil pressure and she's ready to go. Of course, take it easy for the first few minutes.

I think you may be doing your car more harm than good by the prolonged idling. In you're in CA like I am, the car needs no time at all.

Take it in and have them check it out. Make sure to get the actual OBD code, usually in a Pxxxx format and then check to see what that actually translates to. The service paperwork may not list the code so be sure to ask. My guess is that it has to do with mixture error or one tripped by the O2 sensor.

Regards,
Adnan

i doubt that letting it idle actually set a code.
don't worry too much about it (unless you've modded it :P), you're in warranty.
