Need help with paint chip - is my dealer doing the right thing?
Hello folks,
Recently during service at my dealership they managed to put a small chip in the paint. After much discussion they decided they will fix it. It is on the A Pillar right above the driver's head on the right side. It is very small but I have kept my car in great shape without any paint chips so I wanted to get this fixed. My dealer wants to paint the full A-pillar and some part of the roof to fix this. Do you think that is excessive? The other option is to just touch it up but then it will stand out. Am I making it worse by getting a full paint job on the A-pillar. Please advice. Here are some photos of the chip: http://picasaweb.google.com/fidozoom/BMWPaintChip Thanks in anticipation, Balan |

Here's my $0.02: have it touched up. Someone who knows what they're doing can touch something like this up and you'll hardly notice it (just don't look at it every time you get into the car). I'd hesitate having them paint the A pillar and feather the paint onto the roof as they may not do it right. Anybody who thinks they can tackle that job can probably touch it up, remove the blob and polish the affected area such that it'll barely be noticeable.
Let us know the outcome.

i also would avoid the re-paint, but what the dealer is suggesting is more costly to them then a spot touch-up, wet-sand, polish alternative so they must have a reason.
i would take it to a good auto body place for an estimate. if they also recommend a repaint then that must be the way to go. |
