Fluid is supposed to be every 2 years....until I owned a BMW never gave it any thought, but my car was free maintenance for 4 years so the dealer simply changed it when my car was 2 so suddenly I became aware. Once I came across a heated argument at Firestone--they recommended a lady flush her brakes and she said they were liars and robbing her--I stepped in and said well brake fluid is hygroscopic and attracts water so it will corrode your system so it's not a bad idea to replace it every 2 years. The lady calmed down and the counter guy appreciated it as she was laying into him. I believe some Japanese cars say 3 years, so is it critical? maybe not, but it absorbs water which is why it needs to be changed, it will corrode the system from the inside out. The pads seem cheaper but the rotors expensive, I did OE in 2016 and used FCP for the lifetime, but I drive so little the lifetime doesn't really mean anything...I did get a couple parts replaced free.... |

I have had cars 40 years old with fluid that might have just as old. Never had any lines rust. Never heard of lines rusting (from the inside). Only time that i ever bleed brakes on my list of throw away cars is when changing brake cylinders. I dont buy the hygroscopic causing rust.. First if that was the case the outside that is subject to water and oxygen will rust out first.
This is my personal thought and experience on the subject but i would recommend people follow the manufacturer recommendation since the brakes are one thing you dont want to be without. |
