Comfort Access and Washing
Whenever I'm washing the car (w/ Comfort Access) with the key fob in my pocket, the water running over the handle will cause the door to lock and unlock randomly.
Just curious if any else notices this. Just this weekend the CA feature on my doors died completely. I'm wondering if this random locking/unlocking was a symptom of some water leak, or if it's normal behavior.

Put your key inside your car while you're washing it and it won't keep on locking and unlocking.

yes, this is NORMAL behavior of CA while washing your car. i reco' you leave your car in the house/garage while washing her.
not sure why your doors died, i DOUBT it is because you washed your car. does cycling your cars power fix this?

Nice, I'll try the fob inside the car trick. I'd been leaving it in the house.
And yes, it's definitely dead. It's been finicky before, needing a couple tries, but now it's 100% gone. As far as power cycling, how would I try that? Just disconnecting the battery?

Happens to me all the time. A little annoying, but not a big deal. I just put the key in the house while washing.

its because the way that the sensor in the door handle works is that it senses the density of water or something like that and then when it senses that it unlocks the door. Since our body is made up of 70% water, when u put ut hand there, it thinks its water so it unlocks the door. I read this off of some thread awhile back.
So the best solution is to keep the fob in the car as others have mentioned.

One time I went to the detailers and they left the fob in the car, CA screwed up and the car locked, no way in a month of Sundays would it unlock. Managed to get my spare fob and that unlocked the car.. new battery in my fob and no issues since, but it still locks / unlocks when I wash the car. So if your fob battery is getting old I'd suggest you replace it before leaving it in the car while washing. |
