N54 Single Turbo vs NY Emmisions.. need help
What's up guys. I have an 09 335xi. Currently running a doc race single turbo kit. Car is tuned with a jb4 and a backend flash. It is now August, my yearly inspection has been up since March. I have done everything I absolutely can to make this thing pass, and no luck. Been working on it all season.
I have a vrsf downpipe fix installed, and yes it is wired in correctly. I have installed and uninstalled it at least 5 times so far this year. I know how to do it by heart lol. I have tried numerous settings on the downpipe fix, ranging from 5pm all the way to 8pm. I've used tunerpro to make sure codes 29f4 and 29f5 are activated, and also have activated the evap monitor. It seems no matter what setting the downpipe fix is on, I cant go more than 10 or 15 miles without throwing codes. It gives me 2c31 and 2c32, which are said to be codes that may happen if the fix is set too strong. This is why I have had it dialed back all the way to 8pm, and that does not solve it. It also gives me code 2c6a, which basically is telling me that the DME thinks that the rear o2s are mixed up. There is no way for them to be in the wrong holes on this single turbo kit, seeing how it's just one downpipe. I have considered that it may be yellow wires 19 and 20 need swapped, so I have swapped them back and forth with no luck of getting rid of that code. I have deleted the codes, and reset adaptations too many times to count. I have racked up many miles on each setting. Guys, I'm running out of things to try. I don't know what to do, I'm losing hope. There are plenty other guys here in New York that have the same type of single turbo kit, and they use the dp fix and pass emissions just fine. I'm doing everything they're doing, and my car just will not get the readiness it needs to pass. I should also mention the car has all 4 brand new o2 sensors. All installed within the last month. Possibly there is a bad connection somewhere, but I'm not smart enough to find it because I havent yet. Possibly the dp fix has gone bad, it did work for me last season on stock turbos though. The bad thing is they dont sell these anymore so it's not like I can just try a new one. There is absolutely no way to pass in New York without having all monitors complete with the exception of 1, and so far I haven't seen catalyst, o2 sensor or the evap monitor ready. The car runs mint without the dp fix installed. |

I should also add that even with installing all new o2s, nothing changed. I still get the same codes with the dp fix installed as I did with my old o2s. |

Maybe there is a issue with the downpipe fix. Im in Maryland and we have every 2 years emission. I installed mine and had tuner activate codes and passed fine. Sounds weird hoe codes are constantly coming back.

Unfortunately you may be right. I may have to check the wiring in it. Because unfortunately I cant just buy a new one since everyone who made them discontinued them, probably for legal issues.

I soldered a 2.2k resistor in line on 19 and 20 then a 10k resistor clamping to ground on each of them to lower voltage without clipping or adjusting the cycling rate. This was the only thing that worked cause I was getting the mixed o2 sensor with reg dp fix as well. Prob with reg dp fix is it pulls signal from 1 o2 for both inputs on dme plus it is just a variable resistor aka pot so it lowers signal uniformly. The setup i propose was designed by shiv who made the procede and creates a 20 percent reduction in o2 reading.

I know it’s a old thread but what tune are you using? I’m about to go single turbo for spring and passing emission is going to be my biggest issue.

Open a “business” in montana and register it to the business. Never deal with inspection again
