Motor mount replacement

Good morning M57 gurus. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time finding this, but I'm stuck on how most are swapping the motor mounts.

I've got the top nuts removed, engine is lifted and suspended from an engine support bar. Passenger side is done. Getting to the bracket bolts were a little bit of a pain, but I got all 4 from underneath. Deleted the DPF while I was in there so putting it back together was a breeze.

On to the drivers side, I'm just not seeing how to remove the bracket bolts. At least not without removing all the coolant lines and other BS from the top. I have the mount loose, I just cant slip it out between the bracket and the subframe, so I'm assuming the bracket has to come out first.

Are people attacking these bolts from the top or bottom? Am I missing something? In searching, all I can find is guides for doing the gassers, which I assume is different then our diesel.

Thank you!

Since the engine is already supported from the top, have you tried loosening the subframe and dropping it a little for more space?

I have not, that would probably work though. Can it be dropped enough to get the mount out without unbolting everything from it? Seems like I remember there's suspension and stuff attached to it.

I'll go out and give that a shot in a couple hours. Thank you!

The sub frame will drop slightly and it will come out pretty easily.

My hero! If anyone finds this searching, this is the way. 4 - 16mm (I think) bolts and the subframe will drop just a hair, maybe a half inch. But with the engine lifted, it was just enough room to sneak the mount out.

Thanks again!

I just did the passenger motor mount a few days ago and first time for me to use the engine support bar method. I've pulled the passenger mount bracket 4 times now and have the method down pretty well. I've not messed with driver mount as of yet as my car is low miles at 74,1xx. I did change the vacuum line on it that goes over to the T on the driver's side.

I will have to agree with another Houston M57 guy that the support bar method will have you never wanting to mess with jacking the engine from the bottom again.

Agree 100% with support bar method. Did both of mine last winter with this method.

Support bar method works great on the 335d, not so much on the X5 as the fenders are plastic. BMW has a special support bar that sits on the metal bracing just right.
