headunit have 4 channels output 2 channels front output 2 channels rear output 4 channel amp usually used to power front front channel separated in two 2 channels to front doors 2 channels to midbasses under seats (to get more power and perform bandpass) rear channel leaved unpowered if the headunit is recoded to hifi (as many aftermarket amps require balanced lowlevel input) then rear headunit output become too low for rear speakers so if you want to put 4 channel amp you need to ensure that it is will work with high level output but bmw high level output have special equalising characteristics for the base door speakers (which should output high and mids in one time) so if you want to get some better sound with aftermarket amp it has to be 6 channel front door speakers should have crossovers before them amp should have good band filtering capabilities alpine kit is more basic kit but it had adopted to bmw base system circumstances you can look to install manual https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...1qePRZCIR7aEzz

I've the VIBE amp ordered so waiting for it to arrive. As I'm doing this is stages I now have:
Stock base audio HU, Stock subs, Stock mids with hifi tweeters fitted. This all works fine although its poor sound quality overall. Next step: 1. Fit the hifi subs. I've fitted the drivers side tonight and notice that the sound on all speakers drivers side are now really low. Assuming this is because the sub is 2 ohms instead of the stock 4 ohms sub and its running in parallel with the mids/tweeters. Is this ok? When amped will this be fine? 2. Fit the VIBE amp. Not sure if I can just plug and play as is or else split the subs and mids to run in series. 3. Upgrade the mids. Should these be 2 ohm or 4 ohms? |

So I think I've come to the conclusion that as the VIBE amp is 4 channel @ 4 ohms the best way to set this up is to fit the logic 7 underseat subs as they are 4 ohm. The hifi subs are 2 ohms. This will mean I can drive the subs on 2 channels and the door speakers on the other 2 channels.
Just need to work out best way to change the parallel wiring between subs and mids. |
