N54 Build Log
Okay, so a little bit about me to start, I'm 17 and I've owned my 335 for just over a year now.
I bought my 335 when I was 16 and absolutely babied the car. Two weeks into owning it I did the OPG and thought that was a big job. Well, a year later here we are, I swapped in an N54 with 130xxxkms to replace my current 250xxxkm N54 that was having major oil consumption issues due to bad oil control rings. So the N54 that came out I plan on rebuilding. So I'd like to start this with a few pictures of something that I discovered shortly after dropping my engine. |

Yes I agree. Install was extremely sloppy but I got a good laugh out of it once I saw. One of the v bands was snapped in half as well. and just kind of hanging there. The head gasket was not leaking, however, it was definitely leaking at the exhaust port of cylinder 4. I will attach a few photos.

Tore down the rest of the engine tonight also. The bearings looked okay for the mileage however cylinder 4 seemed to have suffered the most. This is also notable on the cylinder wall as well. It seems as though the piston skirt had scraped the wall significantly more than the other cylinders. Anyone with more experience on N54 internals is invited to chime in. I didn't discover any cracked ring lands or pistons, which I was kind of hoping to see but otherwise, everything looks okay.
