3.5 TMAP upgrade.
Do I have to code/tune my 07 e92 in order for a 3.5 TMAP to function normally on a relatively stock engine other the typical FMIC, charge pipe and DIC? Will it do anything negative if I install it before a tune? Thanks

It wont read correctly if i’m not mistaken. It’s a really easy install so just wait till the car is tuned and then check the box for the 3.5 bar tmap sensor

It won't be scaled/read correctly if not tuned/coded for it, and also you need to buy an adapter harness or remove the pins from the stock connector and reverse the order.
Edit: Why are you wanting to install if you only have an FMIC, charge pipe, and DCI? |

It likely won't read correctly, but I'm unsure. If you're already pretty much FBO you should have some sort of tuning software. MHD for sure has an option for the 3.5bar TMAP sensor, not sure about JB4 but I'm pretty sure they also have an option for it.

Much Appreciated.
Thanks for the replies. My goal is to get a tune. I will be getting a stage 2 fuel pump to take advantage of E85. Still not sure about the DP as I dont want to deal with cel. As for the 3.5 TMAP I know its required to fully take advantage of a tune, just wasnt sure if it did anything stock. As for the tune, I'm leaning toward the MHD Stage 2plus. Though the JB4 with a back end tune sounds appealing as well.

You wouldnt need a 3.5bar sensor if youre not gonna run a custom tune. Stock tunes dont go over 20psi. I dont think they target any higher than 18psi
Like stated as well with MHD you wouldnt get a CEL from downpipes. It’s a good thing you joined because you obviously arent really sure what youre doing. Oh and skip the JB4 with backend flash. For a regular bolt on car MHD will make you more than happy. Also just based off your statements. You do know you cant run straight E85 right? It would have to be a mix of pump and E. Atleast at the point youre talking about right now.

Clarification
Yes I am new to the e92, however only drive BMW. I just finished my F10 550i, prior to that an e46 325i and prior to a classic 318i. and I also drive an x5 35i for work. and though my f10 is a beast on the high end, I was looking for something more agile and less weight with the HP comparable to my F10. As for the e85 I only run 30%. Again I was under the impression running a 3.5 tmap had more benefits then running the stock one. As for the CEL in my state some testers are slick enough to check modified cars. But being an 07 I have one year before emissions is grandfathered. I agree the MHD package appears to have the variability and simplicity I'm looking for. Finally funny how the BMW mafia are always on alert.

Yeah no point in 3.5bar tmap unless running a custom tune and pushing 20psi or more. OTS tunes won't target past 18 i don't think. OEM TMAP is fine until 20psi+, then it can't read reliably much past that

If you plan on pushing the turbos past 20psi, then it's worth having the 3.5tmap, otherwise waste of money. |

Do not run the 3.5 bar sensor without a custom tune. Even with the 3.5 bar sensor box checked in MHD, the actual load target scales tables are different.
On the stock sensor to get between 18-20 PSI the load target would be around 195- 200. This is what most stage 2+ OTS maps will be around. On my custom 3.5 bar map, my load target is around 173 getting around 21 PSI. Basically if you install the 3.5 sensor and check the 3.5 bar option in MHD, but do not adjust your load tables accordingly by running a OTS tune, your boost targets will be dangerously high. Checking the box in MHD does not adjust the load tables. |
