I have a 328i and have purchased a set of 335i brake calliper a year ago, recently the front pads are gone and I decided to do the upgrade when I replace the pads and rotor.
Before: 325i brake, front 312mm rear 300mm. OE pad and rotor. After: 335i front brake, 348mm. I did not do the rear because it still got plenty of pad left. EBC redstuff pad EBC Ultimax slotted rotor I bought this set through partsengine.ca for CDN $560 before tax, with a 10% coupon, I usually buy parts from USA but their price on EBC products is unbeatable. Went slotted rotors because I heard they're good on track and resilient to crack compare to cross drilled rotors, and I paired them with redstuff in favour of their low dust. I learned the redstuff are noisier than yellowstuff on EBC's website, and the slotted rotors are noisy as well compare to blank, but I have driven on them for 600km and I did not hear any noise even when cold, at this time Toronto is still at near freezing temperature. True the redstuff is a ceramic and Kevlar material pad and that means it's very hard, and I may need more time to bed them in, but bedding in a brake shall only makes them coupled better, not worse, so my point is you don't have to worry about the noise at all. Pedal feel is much firmer than before, that's either a good or bad thing depends on your preference, it's certainly not linear anymore but once I adjusted the way I press the brake pedal, the braking is still very smooth. Just go easy on pedal. Once the brake pad is engaged on rotor, the braking is still very linear as I pushed the pedal further, it's only the initial bite that has became a bit more aggressive than before. I certainly like this feel and couldn't be happier with it. One important feature of redstuff is low dust, and as you can see from my picture I have BMW 225m rim that is quite hard to clean, this is a major points that wins me from yellowstuff, I did not observe excessive brake dust during hard braking, unlike OE pads which generate some dust. For those who are interested on my brake caliber upgrade... I could not provide a subjective review on that because I changed the pad and rotor from OE to some street performance stuff, all I can tell is it's very worthy upgrade when your old brake component need replacement, after all you'll have to buy new pads and perhaps rotor, so spending a few extra on 335i parts is not bad at all, used 335i caliber set is cheap. Front is plug and play and rear you'll lose the parking brake, either ask a machine shop to CNC you a hollow cylinder to fill the gap (cheaper but heavier), you'll need a new cylinder every time you replace your rear rotor; or use 325i/335i parking brake shoes to make a bigger brake shoes, this is more expensive in labour but ultimately can be reused forever and much lighter than filling a cylinder in rear rotor. Or just leave the rear as-is if you're not OCD, therefore the combination is front 348mm and rear 300mm, not bad at all since the front brake does the majority of braking, and when they fade is usually the front one that fades. I still have 325i brake on rear and the performance feels absolutely normal. Increasing the rotor size only hardly increase the friction force between pads and rotor, as your master cylinder is still the same. Since I already made the parking brake, I'll install the rear when I need replace the rear pad and rotor, but for now this combination suits me well. |

Just curious; Where did you have the rear parking brakes made/machined? (I am local)
