DIY - Boot/Trunk Lid Grab Replacement

Hey guys,

Thought i'd post one of the easiest and fastest DIY replacement mods;
The Boot/Trunk Lid Grab

Cost: $38
Estimated time: 2 mins
Link: https://tinylink.net/F6l3S
Part No: 51247118158
Brand: BAPMIC
To suit: E88 E90 E60 E70 X1 X5 X6
The tools needed: A flathead screw driver or a plastic trim removal tool

1. Few photos of the new part

2. Tool i used was a trim removal tool. A flathead screw driver works as well if your not too fussy.

3. Picture of my old part, it was starting to break apart and it annoyed me ever time I went to open the boot.

4. Removing the old part
Use your flathead screwdriver or trim removal piece to pry between the rubber and the boot at the top. Once you get the pry in there, lightly pry along the top as the piece has three clips along the top which you will need free.

5. Pull the old part towards you, however, be careful as it will still be attached and you don't want to break the clip or damage the wires.

6. Electrical clip, pinch the top and the bottom and gently pull the two apart and it should come free. Be careful not to let the wires fall down into the lid otherwise you will need to fish them out.

7. Steps in reverse now, clip in the new boot grab with the connector and feed it back into it's place starting with feeding the bottom edge in first. Make sure to have the rubberized clicker side facing towards the top.

8. Once you get the main silver clip under, you will have the two smaller clips to finish slotting in. Press the top edge down slightly to clip them into place.

Done.

Thanks Socket. It's a simple DIY and almost not worthy of a post but thought it might help others if their grabs were starting to go like mine was.

Takes 2 mins to change and the quality feels pretty good for the price.

By the Bentley Service Manual, the procedure for the removal/installation of the trunk lid on a sedan (E90) and coupe (E92) are the same.
