Universal Mufflers/Resonators?
Had a muffler delete on my 128i for about a year now and for the price, its great. However, I'd like to quite things down a bit and kill the drone from 2.5-2.8k. Been thinking about having something like a Borla XS or a Vibrant bottle-style resonator put any. Does anyone have experience with a setup like this? If so, how does it compare to a straight muffler delete?

I used to have just a muffler delete, but I eventually went step by step to straight pipe, so I know what every combination sounds like.
To answer your question, I recommend a Vibrant resonator or maybe even a larger one because I know exactly how that 2.8k drone is. Also, I don't know how illegal you want to go, but catless headers are great. Keep your secondary cats and please please add a resonator if you go full straight pipe. With a good resonator, I think a full straight pipe is the best sound. Hope this helps. |

Not looking to do headers or remove any other exhaust components in the foreseeable future. The muffler delete is just a tad too much for me, so I figured a resonator would tone it done a bit. If a resonator would quiet the car done 10-20% and axe the drone while retaining those subtle but satisfying burbles I'd be one happy dude. Did you go with the quiet, standard/bottle, or race? How did it affect the sound, drone, and burbles? |
