320d and always get 44.1 or 44.8MPG

Chaps
No matter how I drive, where I go or what speed I do, my trip computer always reports MPG is either 44.1 or 44.8. Nothing else. Surely this isn't correct?

Is there anyway to completely reset it? I have done 3k miles now.

Thanks

If you reset the MPG reading (by holiding in the button on the end of the indicator stalk when the average MPG is displayed) whilst coasting along the MPG should read 99.9MPG+

If you reset it with the button on the end of the stalk, it re-starts the calculation.

However, a bit of useless information....

The display shows one decimal place. This fools you into thinking, it calculates mpg to within 0.1mpg. It's actually nearer 0.6 mpg....

If you take notice, there are only certain values it will display. This is due to the resolution of the measuring system (8bit I think).

In the range 38 to 70, these are the only values you will ever see.....

38.4 - 39.2 - 41.5 - 42.1 - 42.8 - 43.4 - 44.1 - 44.8 - 45.5 - 46.3 - 47.0 - 47.8
48.7 - 49.5 - 51.3 - 54.3 - 58.8 - 60.1 - 61.4 - 62.7 - 64.2 - 65.9 - 67.2 - 68.9

Not a lot of people know that.....

I'm sure even more are less interested....

I do find it annoying that it only calculates it to the nearest 0.6, why can't BMW make it 0.1 like every other manufacturer!

The penny drops! I am always seeing 48.7, 49.5 and on occaision 51.3. Thanks for the info.

Gr4z, after only 3,000 miles your not going to see much of a difference. I was doing that mileage over a three week period mainly from motorway driving and was just starting to settle into a respectable average. You can also reset by using the radio. Press menu then BC to show mpg, trip etc. Its in the manual. You should be seeing closer to 50mpg but maybe your journeys are too short to get the full efficiency of the engine. Shorter journeys will never achieve the efficiency of longer ones.

Mmmmm I have already travelled a 120 mile trip a few times now. Still only ever get 44.8 max. I will keep an eye on it...

I'm getting 0.1 resolution on the M3 without any trouble

Gr4z, You do know how to reset the mpg reading don't you?.........

After it's reset it will start off low or high then gradually find a figure which reflects your driving
