Anybody heard of a Plug & Play amp upgrade?

Simply that. Has anyone heard of any upgraded amps for the 3 Series that is just plug and play without having to cut and splice (accepts the factory wire harness)? Anything planned for the future?

The reason for question is if I purchase the impending Bavarian SoundWerks upgrade (all new speakers) I would think a better/more powerful amp would only help! Plug and play is always easier that cut and splice!

Thanks in advance!

What difference does it make? Are you leasing? A new amp would just splice into the factory speaker harness in the trunk; You could make a no-cut harness by buying the connectors from your parts desk.

Good point. I guess I am just being lazy. Any idea on the cost of the connectors?

No I am not leasing but I usually like to return the car to factory condition before selling.

Probably a lot compared to other connectors, but not that much compared the the amp? (no idea )

Ah, fair enough. It also makes it easier to get a professional-looking installation. It's hard to make a big ball of splice look clean.

I'm kind of surprised BSW doesn't offer something like this already; maybe they're waiting until they sell an amp package?

I have put a Blaupunkt THA-555 in along with some SWS8 subs with truly stunning results.
If you are in the States this won't work though as it is for cars with no amps.

I have a 2008 USA E90 sedan with basic Business radio. The dealer says it is not compatible with any third party amplifiers and the warranty would be voided if I tried to install one anyway.

In the worst case, warranty on the sound system and any directly related/affected functional components could be voided and nothing else.

The SWS-8 fits the 6.5" enclosures (you have to remove an OEM spacer). Of course, there are SWS-6 available if you do not want any installation hassles.

They guy at the dealership said it won't work with third party amps because of the proprietary European wiring design, different connectors, ohms, voltages and whatnot.
I have heard about someone who had some car with a factory Bose system and he couldn't even change the speakers unless he bought a new head unit and changed all the factory amps.

The only OEM amp that cannot be replaced is the Logic7's/Premium Audio (M3), and it is because it interfaces digitally with the OEM HU/Nav system. Otherwise, you can replace the standard analog audio OEM amp with any aftermarket amp with the proper topology/LOC.

Do a search and you will find a lot of members that have sucessfully and happily done so...
