Apple watch anyone?
Ok it's probably sacrilegious to talk about a digital watch in a watch forum but I can't say enough about this thing.
It's one of the few smart watch with a built in cellular phone. That's Maxwell Smart and 007 stuff just a few years ago. Now it's the norm. What are your favorite and most useful functions and what unique apps have you found? What casing and color combinations do you have? Did anyone in here bought the $17K gold edition? |

We use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) at work. When I log into a site protected by MFA, I get a quick notice on my AW6 screen. I just tap it and I'm good. Same with making changes on my new MBP. Instead of having to type in my password every time, I just double-click the side button on the AW6.
40mm Space Gray Aluminum with various bands. No cellular. Makes for a better sports watch, too. My 2 Garmins are gathering dust now.

I had both silver stainless AW0 and AW2 before that. My current day watch is a titanium AW5, and my night watch is now the ceramic AW3. Both have the cellular links enabled. I use Siri from my watch to control my home automation system, and having the night watch on my wrist while sleeping while the day watch charges is convenient to turn on the outside lights from bed when the foraging 2 AM bear shows up in our yard knocking the garbage cans around.....

I just returned from a brief road trip. All of my fuel was pay-at-the-pump with Apple Pay from my watch, and every single rest area's vending machines accepted "watch" as payment. I only spent about $20 in cash on the entire trip.....

My AW6 came close to saving my life. I’m 65+, and after a extreme workout my heart went into afib. I never felt it, didn’t know it was there, didn’t feel any different. I have NEVER had any heart problems, body fat % excellent, ran a full marathon in ‘97.My watch started alarming me that I had an afib situation, so I went to the ER and sure enough I was in afib. The next morning they gave me a procedure that shocked my heart back into normal rhythm, and I’ve been fine ever since. The cardiologist said he was extremely happy I came in,He said another day of afib and my heart could be throwing off clots or a stroke… I’m a believer, it’ll never come off my wrist. Measuring blood oxygen is also nice, as a drop in blood ox is one of the first early, early signs of Covid.
And yup, Apple Pay on the watch is amazing, esp in these days of COVID. I don’t touch anything, I use my keys to tap the machine, wave it over the machine and done. I don’t touch money or even have to take my wallet with me it works without my phone anywhere. Very handy.

-Space grey Series 6 with LTE, a handful of bands too. Being unable to pay for stuff is superb. As far as unique apps, nothing wild, the ability for it to play Audible without the phone is great for the beach. More importantly it allows me to triage notifications so it keeps me away from my phone quite a bit. How does the BMW Connected watch app for everyone here? My lock/unlock commands aren't stable, about a 20% success rate.

I'm really glad to hear about the medical benefits that some of you have mentioned. They are good at alerting you if are having an irregular heart rate, or low SaO2. However I can also say with confidence that they don't usually provide all the information completely objectively.
I treat patients for OSA and one of my patients was using his AW and an app to monitor his sleep while he was using my appliance therapy. He called me up pissed off that my treatment was making him worse according to his watch and app. I had him come in and I administered a home sleep study (HST) and compared it to the original HST I did on him. My treatment resulted in a 75% reduction in his AHI and I told him to remove the sleep app from his phone. So for basic cardiac information these watches and apps are vey useful. I don't have an Apple Watch, but I do wear a Samsung Galaxy SW and rarely wear any analog watches from my collection.

I bought a AW4 Nike Edition when it was introduced, I only needed it form feedback during runs but seem to wear it more for the information. The activity circles can be addictive but it’s not like anyone else sees the results. You allows you to get emails, messages, heart rate, ECG, music and calls on non cellular if the phone is nearby.

I've been on the fence for years with getting an Apple Watch only because I don't want to not wear all the expensive watches that I have, and I don't really want to part with any of them.
Thanks to this thread, I finally hopped off the fence and got an Hermès 6 with deployment strap. I like it as much as I knew I would.
