Is jet black as bad as i keep hearing
So first off let me state that i know i shouldnt have used an automatic car wash, i always handwash my cars. I just wanted to get the underbody washed.
However the car wash ended up scratching the hell out of my hood and obviously they’ll try to do whatever they can to get out of paying for a paint correction. So instead i’ve decided i’m just gonna do it myself. I had done it by hand when i first got the car about 5yrs ago and it came out great. Obviously it’s been awhile though. Anyway i bought a dewalt buffer/polisher and i plan to do it myself. I’ve been reading though and everyone is saying that Jet black/schwarz black is incredibly difficult and many detailers were saying you couldnt pay them to do it. I bought a set of foam pads and have griots compound and polish i’ll pick up some liquid wax as well since i’ve always used carnauba wax

My first car was black/black and this and the AZ heat is why I refuse to get another. Stuff just shows up glaringly on black cars and after a wash, you get one or two drives outside before you start noticing the dust.
Hopefully a two or three stage will get rid of it, looks like you might have to get aggressive with the paint correction. Best of luck. |

Thats kind of what i was figuring it’s in the clear as my nail doesnt pick up anything but still a big mess. I figure i’ll do a small test run on my expedition as i truly do not care about that vehicle and i’d rather get a feel for it on that.
Hopefully i can get it cleaned up i’m just worried as i’ve heard jet black is very soft and easy to damage

Jet black is great color if you are a DIY detailer. That means always washing it properly. Jet black being a non metallic color, and well black, swirls will easily show up.
For me personally I'm going for jet black or metallic black for my daily. When it's cleaned and the paint is 90% swirl free it's so satisfying to look at and I clean my cars weekly. And yes it's true, I've also read jet black is softer so marring is easier. |

I normally wash my car weekly when it is warmer and dont really drive it in the winter unless theres no snow and the salt has been washed away. That however was the main reason for taking in through a car wash was to remove any potential salt.
I have been meaning to give it a proper paint correction for awhile now and this just pushed me to finally do it. My dewalt buffer came in today and i think it will do great just need to pick up some polish and liquid wax(already have compound)

Well i think i made decent progress not completely happy with the results yet but to 99% of people i think they’d be pretty happy with it

I also have a Jet black and looking forward to warmer weather to try and polish the thing, hope to get similar results as you did

It was not as bad as people make it out to be in my opinion i was pretty pleasantly surprised

I have owned a black metallic sapphire for nearly four years and know from previous cars that they require a little more attention. Whether it’s how you wash it, apply product or frequency of detailing swirl marks are inevitable. Keep a black car clean and it’s beautiful but when it’s dirty, it can look ordinary.

I've had 2 Jet Black 5 series, and Black Sapphire 3, and now 4 series. The JB's were were prettier IMO, a lot harder to keep up, and softer paint. I enjoy detailing, so don't mind the upkeep of the JB's. Go with what you like, and can handle.

I’ve already owned the car for 5yrs so not asking for advice on getting one.
I was simply concerned with how hard it would be for an amateur to perform a proper paint correction on one
