N52 - noisy AC compressor and PS pump
Hey all.
I'd noticed what sounded like bearing noise coming from my AC compressor. After reading a few threads on here, I thought it could be the pulley bearing and took the clutch off to hopefully replace it. To my dismay, it seems like the bearing is completely fine. Anyone know if there's a cheaper fix than replacing the entire (very expensive) compressor? While the serpentine belt was off, I also noticed some odd noises coming from the power steering pulley when turned back and forth. Pulley feels like it's on tight. The power steering works okay, but does this seem normal to anyone who's checked their pulleys recently? Thanks! |

Does your AC noise sound like a loud grinding? Mine has been sounding like this for about a year but working fine otherwise. I notice it when I shut my car off with the AC running, the AC grinds/winds down for 5-10 seconds after and it sounds a bit rough.

I wouldn’t call it a grinding noise, sounds more like a whine. A bit like a vacuum cleaner, lol. It’s most noticeable between 1-2k RPM. Lately I have maybe started to notice a slight uneven grinding noise, but it’s not that loud, so can’t say for sure.
It’s AU$600 for a new compressor and it’s illegal here to perform AC work without a license, so I’m terrified of the potential price to get it replaced. I might just leave it for the time being... |
