I've never changed the oil on my N55 so I'm not sure what how much oil I should see under the cap. Just received my car back from an engine builder and it this seems low to me. The motor won't turnover very long or at all sometimes. Because I can't run the motor. I can't check the oil level from the dash.
Can someone look and tell me if my oil is low from looking down the cap in this picture attached? TIA [IMG][/IMG] |

I'm not getting the full picture of what happened here but you can't tell the level from looking in the cap as far as I know. Did your engine builder not fill it with oil? If you have no way of finding out, just drain it and put the right amount in but I'm sure if someone knows how to build an engine, he/she certainly filled it up with oil.

The dash won't tell you the oil level with the engine off but it will tell you if the oil level is sufficient to start the engine. It needs to be in ignition with your foot off the brake. If your dash says the level is sufficient then you can safely start the engine. If the motor won't run then there's something else wrong.

I don’t think a builder would ship the engine with oil in it.
Pull the drain plug, drain whatever is in there, and fill as normal. Small price to pay. |
