This puts the wheel slightly closer to the brakes. I've been running 8Jx17 ET40 wheels for a while and they're fine, but am in need of new rims as the ones I have are beyond repair.

I found a set of 8Jx17 ET47 (E46 wheels) for a good deal, but I won't lie that I'm a little concerned about the 7mm shift inward. does anyone have any experience if thesewill work right out of the box without hitting the calipers, or do I absolutely need spacers? Not a big deal if I do, but I want to just have them ready right away instead of waiting for them to ship. (also, any recommendations for a 10mm spacer? Previous threads seem to be sparse in details)

I did search, but didn't find any clear information what the absolute limits are for various wheel sizes.

Stock fronts is 8" w/ 34 offset so you're already 6mm in from stock; those wheels are 13mm farther inwards.

I currently run a 9" wide w/35 offset in the front. the inside of the wheel seems to be at teh SAME spot as 8" 47 offset would be.

So will it work? yes. Will it look terrible? also yes.

I'm also a 335 so I have bigger brakes in the front so you'll have clearance there. But the wheels are 19" I'm wondering if 17" would get too close to the thrust arm/control arm when its that high of an offset?

Good to know about the brakes. It at least gives me hope I can get it out of the shop.

I actually didn't think about the thrust arm until now, but thinking about it with the ET40 tires, there was never a concern about rubbing there. There was definitely more than 1/4" of space around the arm at any given time since it sticks out almost directly inward before it curves into the subframe.

That said, your comment about it looking terrible might be absolutely true, so I'm probably just going to get some spacers in the near future. Just wanted to make sure I can drive it off before I scratch up anything.

Not sure. I tried a few days ago some beater wheels 18x8 ET43 on my 328 xDrive, and it does not fit.

That's interesting! wonder why? I also had 18x8+43 (E60 x-drive) wheels on my rwd 335 to drive it to storage and had no issues.

What was the reasoning they wouldn't work?

I run e46 47 offset 8" wide wheels in the front.

just get a 12.5-15mm spacer.
