Hey guys, so I have a 2009 335i N54 with 125k miles. I know wastegate rattle is normal for this high mileage, however I want to decrease it.

I already tightened the rear actuator rod and put an expansion spring to help hold it still. I also spaced out the front turbo's actuator with 1 8mm washer for both bolts.

When the car is cold, I rev it and the wastegate rattle is very minimal. However, when the car gets warm, I rev it and its a whole lot worst. Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve taking the turbos out?

I dont know why it gets worst when it warms up! Should I add another 8mm washer for the front turbo? Any suggestions help! Thanks!

here is my Story when I had a N54, and I do miss it.
ok, so 1 day I got the 30ff code.
ended up it was a hole on the vac line that goes to the rear turbo.
ok, so as a quick solution, I replaced all the vac lines with RUBBER Windshield washer Lines at a local auto store, and they said that it is the same stuff for turbo actuators.

well, it fixed my 30ff code, but my ratle was still there.
Then I ordered High Temp silicone lines, with a 3.5mm inside diameter from:
https://www.verociousmotorsports.com/

All I can say it, my Rattle was significantly reduced and My Lag was also significantly reduced.
I did not have my car for approx 4 more months then lost it in an accident.
but I am if I had the car, the rattle would be back eventually.

PS: My advise, if you want to keep the car, replace or repair those turbos.

Thank you for the reply! I do not have a 30ff code at the moment, just the rattle. I will be sure to check the lines though!

I will eventually be replacing the turbos with some stage 2 turbos, however for the time being I just want to see if there is something I can do to get rid of the lag, seeing as I do not have a 30ff code. Thanks!

Taking a closer look, this might actually be a fix, seeing as the lines are probably expanding with heat as the car warms up, creating more of a rattle. I will be sure to update the thread after replacing my vacuum lines!

UDATES:

The vacuum lines did help a lot but did not get rid of the rattle completely!

HOWEVER, i did figure out I did not space the front wastegate actuator out correctly. Make sure to put the 2 8mm washers BEHIND the actuator in order to space it out right haha.

Anyways, after putting 2 8mm washers for each bolt for the front wastegate actuator and adjusting the rear wastegate actuator rod AND replacing the vacuum lines, the rattle is completely gone even with catless downpipes!

Hope this helps someone whos struggling with them!

You can tune them out with MHD flasher. Regardless It's going to need some new turbos eventually.

Opted not to tune it out with MHD due to the turbo lag. Regardless, I tried to and did 50% tune out and it did not do much at all. I plan on doing TD04 17t upgraded turbos eventually so I will just run MHD stage 2+ until these go out (:

Update: Turbos ended up blowing after my MHD stage 2+ so I went big single lol. The springs, vacuum lines, and spacers gave my turbos a few thousand miles extra

I got that 30FF code and thorough diagnosis says wastegate actuator 2 is the problem. Which one is actuator 2? front or back?
