Dinan Stage 2 Suspension vs. KWv2+H&R f&r sways

I'm stuck deciding between these two... I am looking for a modest drop for aesthetics, but also for a much more stable drive on canyon runs and aggressive street-driving (I do drive more aggressively than most).

That being said, **********s.com offers KW v2's + H&R f&r sways for $2074. Cost of the Dinan setup is $2218!! So for just $144 I have Dinan covering my suspension warranty until my BMW 4-year is up. It seems that Dinan would be the way to go financially (the Dinan package includes Koni Adjustable Struts and Shocks).

So what do you all say?? And for those of you who have already purchased one of these suspension systems, please state why you chose your route!

Unless you have a phobia about getting parts installed at a non-bmw dealership, it's a no brainer. One is a shock and spring combo and the other is a real coilover setup. A warranty on coilovers isn't as big of a deal. KW offers a warranty as well. Generally the only thing that you'd ever need a suspension warranty for is a blown shock here and there, but IIRC, KW covers that. It's not like a powertrain warranty where there might be a $15k bill in your future.

I've had koni yellows (the same thing dinan's using) on all my previous cars, but i'd never compare them to a real coilover setup. With that said, go for option 2 and never look back.

Thanks for the advice! You make some great points. How do you like your TC Kline DA Coilovers? I've never heard of them before... how did you decide on those??

Aside from the height adjustability, explain the difference.

Bilstein PSS10 + Hotchkis is another excellent option.

stressdoc, where did you purchase your Blisteins and Hotchkis (I'm assuming you only got the hotchkis sways?)? And why did you choose the PSS10's over the PSS9's?

I have not gotten them yet because I'm waiting on the Bilstein Ride Controls. Tirerack has both the PSS10s and Hotchkis. They are a matched system.

HKS Hipermax is a very nice coilover set up too, a clear choice if fully adjustable ride height without affecting suspension travel is a priority.

The Bilstein ride controls are out, at least one member has gotten them. TurnerMS is selling them for about $2100 I think.

Of course they take note of it, but unless you get a crappy set up (lowered too much, etc...) or a bad install, the only thing not warrantied is the coilover, which has its own manufacturers warranty. Frankly, it's not a bad idea to have your dealer install them and do the alignment.

oh really?? For the PSS10's? Or is this a case where the Blisten ride controls can be applied to any blisten coilover setup? Did you get a set??

hmm... I'm trying to google TurnerMS and can't find much... got a link by any chance?

is this car going to be tracked? if so then go for a true coil-over setup

if not go for dinan..they have an uncanny ability to reduce under steer and make the car as neutral as possible with their suspension components.. Steve Dinan does a PHENOMINAL JOB..but if you are gonna race the car go for a full coil-over..seriosly if it is for the street it's not gonna make a bit of difference and the balance of the dinan suspension will win..unless you get the kw or bilstein and have them installed..taken out for a test, refiddled with..taken out for a test again, re tuned again..and so on..truth is someone who just buys a coil-over setup and has it installed without the proper techs doing tests is basically worthless..balancing a suspension is like balancing a bowling ball on a string..it isn't easy..that's why i like dinan..every suspension system they put together is tested like crazy to reduce understeer and make the car as balanced as possible..if your gonna race go with the others and a true professional installer otherwise just go with dinan.

You are going to have to spend time and money adjusting and tweaking the CO set to even match the performance the Dinan set up will give you out of the box.

I got KW V3 installed in the 335xi and love them. The handling has improved dramatically. The ride has changed with low speeds feeling the road more (still very comfortable ride) and at high speeds is definitly smoother. The big difference is less body roll while making hard corners and much more controllable and smoother at high speeds. I paid a little more and got the work done at my dealer. The took their time and did the job right. I highly recommend the KW but they will be more work to fine tune but you won't regret the choice. Plus, I got an excellent deal at **********s so the price will be better than the listed above.

Chuck,

What dealership installed the KWs?

What setting did you end up with after tweaking?

The dealer is North Scottsdale and did a great job. I had the CO set at the recommended setting and still going to give it more time before I tweak the rebound/compression. I thought I would have to adjust them because my friend with the older M3 had to adjust his 3 time before he got it the way he like it.

I don't think you would have to worry about warranty. If that's the one thing keeping you from purchasing KW coilovers, a top of the line coilover system, I'll just let you know that as an authorized KW dealer, we make sure you receive a full, lifetime manufacturer's warranty--you won't get this from just any vendor either

PM me for details--I'll set you up with a good deal as well That includes anyone else lol

James,
After learning the ridiculous price of the Dinan Stage 2 Suspension setup, the KWv2+H&R f/r sway setup has become my #1 setup.

Can you PM me a good price for a set of KWv2 coilovers and front and rear H&R sway bars? I'm just going to do the installation myself and save myself some $$$.

Or, if you have any other suggestions, they are welcome--this is my first time upgrading a suspension.

BTW, my intentions are to have a car that puts power to the ground better, corners like a go-cart (well, that's my goal), and has very little or no body roll. This car will not be tracked, but I take spirited runs on open, windy roads just out of town almost every other weekend. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the roughest/stiffest ride possible), I am probably shooting for a 3-4...

Thanks!
