CE light, Knock sensor code, Limp mode, Clack sound
Hey guys
For a while I've been getting 2E68 - DME: Knock-sensor signal 1 every now and then. Car goes into limp mode (3100). Recently things have gotten worse and now I get it pretty much every day. It appears while cruising. Not while shaper accelerations. It also only happens when engine has warmed up a bit, like 5-10 minute drive. Running on stock maps doesnt change anything. Vanos has been cleaned and checked, wastegates are ok. I hear clear "clack" or "tick" sound that hasnt been present before. It is audible to the cabin while driving. Sound comes from right side of the engine, somewhere around the turbos maybe? Removing engine cover does not make it louder. You can hear it here how it sounds in the cabin. The clacking is there all the time: idle, higher rpm, lower rpm. You can hear it throughout the whole clip. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gKi...ew?usp=sharing Any idea what to check next? Thanks Last edited by sym0; 04-28-2021 at 02:59 PM.. |

Maybe change the actual knock sensor... you know, the one that the code is for? These cars usually do a pretty good job at telling you what's wrong.
Anyway, the audio sounds like rod knock to me as you get higher up in the RPMs but audio over video is not a very good indicator of anything. Change the knock sensor first, then go from there.

I dont think it is the knock sensor. I would be worried because of this sound alone without the codes.
Audio gets a bit messed up at higher RPM. In video you hear it best at idle or at lower RPM, the clack or click sound is just the same at higher RPM as well, it comes just more often (once per cycle). Last edited by sym0; 04-28-2021 at 02:47 PM.. |

If it sounds anything like this my guess would have to be rod knock.

Yeah, its not that "usual rod knock sound" at all. Its not that "violent" even when it is loud noise. Also its the very same sound on idle, low rpm, high rpm, every rpm. Its very cyclic, always there the same, doesnt go away. Same sound cold and warm.

I had something similar happening......on my morning cruise to work I would get the CE light, limp mode, and knock sensor fault a few times a week.
I changed the knock sensor.....fixed the problem. I would try that first...... |
