E90 330D - okay to drive with exhaust separated?
Hi All,
I was in a rush and replaced a generic exhaust clamp I installed a while back when I did a rear subframe swap and installed an original E90 330D exhaust clamp but I rushed installing it and today after pulling away slightly quick at a roundabout the exhaust come away just after the flex pipe it literally is about as straight piped as you could get.. But i have to say it sounds like a beast is there any reason to fix this sooner rather than later? |

Probably best to just reattach the exhaust. Or did you lose the clamp when the exhaust fell off. I think my immediate concern would be the exhaust fumes getting into the cabin. Not too good for you or your passengers.

it might gas you, i drove a mk4 golf diesel with a broken exhaust for a few days and was ok when driving but you could smell the fumes when stationary or in slow traffic.

I don’t know if it will cause any damage but I doubt it. I started mine after I’d installed its diff but before refitting the exhaust, sounded quite good (for a diesel), I was surprised how relatively quiet it was but I didn’t drive it. Got me wondering what that massive rear silencer actually does!

It sound so nice as well! Took a while to get used to but the spool is louder, and if you come off the accelerator just as the gear changes it has a deep growl sound (not the most accurate description) and on WOT it's really raspy, it's like a Genuine BMW straight pipe
