Skeeeeee Ratch = Shhhheeee aT

My apologies for the poor quality of the pictures...ill take some more during the day tomorrow, but i just wanted to get an opinion or two before i take it to the shop.

I dont know HOW i got these scratches, but it looks like whatever did it...dug in to start, kinda eased up in the middle and finished off hard at the end. I did what i could with scratchx and some other shiat to really get a good idea of the damage. I was able to wear down the scratch a bit in a few areas to where it looks like it would buff out with a machine. but at the two deeper points of the damage, my fingernail gets caught in the groove, and as you can see...the scratches are white in nature.

im guessing a buff will get out a lot of this, but im probably going to need some touch up paint. basically, its not going to look like new, but at least ill be able to hide a lot of the appearance.

any takers? and again, sorry for the poor quality.

Maybe someone wanted to key your car, started doing it, regreted, but got mad again and finished the job?

Seriously though... I used to get scratches like that on my old GS300 and the shop was able to buff them out. Can't really tell that good from your pics how deep it is though.

the best i can do is to say that when i run my fingernail over it, the nail gets stuck in the groove. i have black paint and all i see is grey in the groove. hope that helps.

Haywire that needs to be wetsanded with a rubber block behind the paper to avoid grooves from your finger,or if its through the paint you can build it up with touch up paint and let cure then wetsand, wool pad then foam then it will noticibly diminished or gone depending on the prep.

what about a straight buff, heat up the paint into the groove and blend in... or is that WAY too smiple a stage to fix that problem. is that a safe practice or am i looking for trouble?

I showed it to a shop today and thats what he was planning on doing, i dont recall any mention what so ever of any type of wet sand and so forth.

so SWEET, youre suggesting i get the touch up paint (FIRST) and just fill in scratches that are through the paint....then wet sand, then have someone give it a buff.

I just wanna make sure i take the most effective route, if its going to pay off to just wait, fill it in then have it buffed afterwards, thats what ill do. but if i can just have it buffed and blended and get the same result, ill just get it done asap.

Hey haywire did the shop say if was down to the primer ? You can move paint with a wool pad on a rotary you have to be super carefull, sometimes you can wear a groove in the paint like a valley or something. If it was me I would fill the scratch let it cure and add some more untill the scratch is higher then the rest of the paint then let it cure ,then wetsand flush ,then polish with wool pad then foam pads, and I bet you wont see it .Its cheaper than repainting.Maybe some of the other detailers would like to chime in.

all i know about this dude is that he comes with a strong reputation for doing good work. apparently he is the type that if he cant do it, he wont touch it...so im guessing he feels he has a pretty good feel for what hes going to attempt. I think he feels confident that he can either move the paint, or simply just buff it out... I just want the least amount of damage done to the paint as possible, gettin the scratch out is good, but i dont need it done AT ALL COSTS. I rather wait and get it done with less damage then rush out and possibly do more harm then i have to.

what ill do is mention the touch up paint idea, it makes sense to me sweet...fill it up more so he doesnt have to go futher down on the paint.

it stops my fingernail, but its not a big CHUNK, its a deep scratch.
