ABS 4x4 engine light came on due to speed sensor touching axle.

was quoted $1800 to replace axle and sensor, it seems to me that the sensor has expanded to the axle, so I believe it would be easier to pull the sensor further away from the axle. Has anyone encountered this problem before?
