Mexico resort recommendations?

I'm not one to take vacations so I don't know much about where to go etc.

I need your recommendations. I'm booking a 5 day trip as a surprise for my friend and his wife. I don't have time to research what's good or not.

People that have been to Mexico for a vacation, what's the best place to go? Which resort is the best? Looking for in all inclusive package. This will make my life easier when booking it.

I like the Playa Del Carmen area, it's one of the nicer areas in Mexico with great beaches/resorts, and even shopping malls/centers. Also TONS of great stuff to do and see(TULUM, other Mayan sites, Chitchen Itza, under ground caves/aquifers, etc..)

The resort depends on your budget.

Cancun was awesome but you have to want to go check out Chichin Itza and the cenotes in the jungle. Aka part resort life and part jungle adventure.

The Hilton in Playa del Carmen. It's all inclusive but it's in the heart of town so you're not stuck on the property, you can explore on foot at any time.

Great way to get your feet wet in the area

Our favorite in Mexico. Not one bad thing to say. Can't remember what the price is going for though, lucky to have friends that are members so we can usually swing deals.

Our favorite is the Excellence resorts. They have a few in Mexico but IMO the best one is Excellence Playa Mujeres.

If they like good food, good wine/cocktails and a gorgeous location....Secrets the Vine.
Right next to Hard Rock, close to the super luxurious mall and downtown Cancun.
Older upscale crowd, clean rooms and no "Spring Break" atmosphere.

I've been to Playa Del Carmen and Tulum a lot.

I can highly recommend Tulum. It's my favourite place to go on vacation. I'm actually considering buying a place there, it's so good down there. Absolute paradise!

The all inclusives suck unless you go super high end. The food is basically inedible in most of the ones ive experienced and they are soulless
