I ask because i have not seen LV referenced in owners manual, car or even BMW's own brake fluid. If this is required i would like to know.
See attached

BMW's "High Performance" fluid has the same dry (265°C) and wet (175°C) boiling temperatures as ATE SL.6 so they're likely the same thing.

Ok but where did you get this information? It seems like it would be easily accessible since it could be dangerous to use non LV fluid in a system designed for LV.

Not everyone has access to ISTA or most owners so that information should be readily available...

The above is from BMW TIS. I don't think the manual specifies which type of fluid to use - only to bring to a dealer for servicing. All BMW part numbers for DOT4 fluid are low viscosity.

I believe low viscosity fluid has been used in most European cars with stability control since the early 2000s. For example, Volvo has specified DOT4+ (ie DOT 4 LV) since 2001 and VAG also switched to low viscosity when they introduced ESP in the mid-2000s. Anyone recommending regular DOT4 at this point is likely unaware or misinformed.

OE BMW brake fluid is coming from two suppliers: ATE and Pentosin (Fuchs).

I stand corrected. The best fluid as of writing is Bosch ESI6 DOT 5.1. It is compatible with DOT 3 and DOT 4 and is low viscosity like DOT 4 LV (~670cst). It has higher boiling points (185C wet 270C dry), a 3 year service interval and is cheaper than DOT 4 LV fluids.

It is made by ATE.
I am not big fan of be it all fluids. If it covers LV fluid than it is LV fluid. IMO not suitable for track etc. where regular DOT4 should be used. However it claims that it cover DOT4.
