Valve Cover > Breather Connection

Hi,

Been searching around and don't think I've seen much discussion on this -

Looking at the Pelican Parts E90 Valve Cover Gasket DIY, they mention it is common that the breather connection on the valve cover breaks off, and to replace it with super glue.
I've just taken off the valve cover and had this happen, but wondering the validity of this, and if anyone had seen any negative comments around doing so? My cover is in great condition, and wondering if I need to spend the $600 CAD to replace it, if this can simply be glued back in place?

Also, once the valve cover is back on, does anyone know of this piece is securely sandwiched in place, or do I run the risk of having it broken off and swimming around?

Judging by how easily it broke off, I'm assuming epoxying it back may even be stronger?

Here's the DIY (not sure if the URL will work, but it's fairly easy to find via Google):

Thanks!

Seriously tho, given it's right in there, a little worried if it breaks off. Is $600 bucks saved worth a new engine?

I did it once on one of my N52s, but have since replaced the cover on that car. No problems whatsoever. The super glue really only keeps it in place while you are installing it, so as long as you don't go crazy with it, I don't see the harm.

Now if it's your original cover, you might want to consider replacing it, since the PCV will likely fail soon, given the age of the e90. As a replacement after one of mine failed, I bought a Rein aftermarket cover. Couldn't tell the difference from Genuine and came with all of the gaskets at half the cost.

Thanks - Any reason you went Rein over any of the others?

Well, Rein is an OEM for many BMW components, but I bought it primarily because of the reviews for their cover vs other aftermarket ones (there aren't many… URO, Febi, Rein & Elring are probably the only reputable manufacturers). Has a 3year warranty, too.

That being said, not sure how easy it will be to get in CA… might be just as cheap to order the BMW one.
