N55 tuning

Hello everybody,

I bought, `335I E90` with `N55` engine. Before buy this car, I read a lot about N54 and N55. I am not deep in car internals, but as a analyze of many posts people says that N54 has an unbeliavable tuning potential.

Basically, my question is:

How weak is N55 engine ? Can I tune it and get really fast and powerful car ? (Please, do not go in engine internals because I am not expert in it).

Thanks !

The short answer to your question is that the N55 has good strength (Not as much as N54) and nice tuning potential.

If you go for the basic mods you will put full bolt on mods and have a custom tune. You would be in the best world able to pushout 400 hp (not wheel) if you have proper fueling.

This being said, if you want to make more power than this you will have to upgrade the turbo with appropriate supporting mods. Again, having good fueling as ethanol mixes is really important when trying to hit higher power. Meth injection is also an option that can help you chase over 500 whp. But in my opinion, to go beyond 400 hp, you will need to upgrade the turbo for sure.

I would say that on all stock internals and with proper tuning, 600 whp is doable. Higher than this or even arround that I would consider upgrading internals.

It has been a while I didn't discussed this or read on news so if anyone has better more accurate information please share or correct me!

Thank you for reply !

So, turbo is the most important factor. Is it correct ?

Thanks !

If you are chasing higher levels of power, the stock turbo will quickly be your limiting factor but of course you need all of the other mods!
