So just an update guys,
New starter, alternator and battery installed, battery registered to car and replaced glow plugs. Managed to get a used footwell module coded to the car so everything should be working as normal. That is apart from the car still not starting. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Voltage when car is off is 12.7v and when it's running it goes between 14.0 and 14.1. strangely when I plug in a Bluetooth OBD2 reader and run a diagnostics check, the voltage goes up to about 14.6 then when I stop scanning drops to 14.01 max I've checked all the connections to and from all parts of the car, all are connected with no signs of corrosion. The only thing I have noticed is with the red module on the battery. If I open one of the flaps on it, there is a plate of thin metal that seems to have a slight tear in it. Surely this wouldn't have an effect on the car starting? I've also ordered a new black relay for in the dashboard fuse box just to rule that out, see quite a few people on YouTube change this and their car is revived. Unfortunately due to my haste, when I installed the new alternator I didn't sit the bet correctly on all pulleys so that has worn a bit, just waiting for my local motor factors get the power steering belt in stock as may as well change that at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Then put a screwdriver across the main cable at the starter and the small terminal, if it doesn’t turn over with a known good battery then the starter is knackered.

Gotta learn some how. I know it would be easier just to take it to a specialist and throw money at the issue. My problem is I don't have copious amounts of money, quite the opposite. So the more o can do the better. |

I'm just thinking and typing right now.
When I watched a how to video on the starter motor replacement they used new bolts due to the originals made to not be reused. Obviously I just used the originals. Could the issue maybe that the originals are not pulling the Starter motor tight enough to the flywheel? This causing the motor to just spin? |

Do you have Inpa? Scan for any codes on the ecu. My M47 engined E90 once wouldn't start because I hadn't reconnected the cable next to the positive point in the engine bay properly. I think it was an earth for the fuel system. Car turned over but did not fire.

So seems I have resolved the issue.
The small wire on the starter motor wasn't getting a positive signal when pressing the start button. As a temp fix I have put a bypass on this wire to a switch then to the positive terminal. Any one have an idea where this wire runs to? I couldn't trace the wire from the starter back as it goes into a wire tidy then runs around the back of the engine from what I can see. |
