Maintenance Plan(s) and Extended Warranty (2019 X3 m40i)
I have a 2019 X3 m40i that I bought new in Nov 2018. It has about 33,000 miles on it and I'm about 'done' with the factory included maintenance program.
I'm considering my options for a prepaid maintenance plan and/or extended warranty. Below is the pricing info I received from my local dealer (Tom Bush). I'd appreciate any thoughts/input/advice on this and the pricing I received. Also, are these programs with the money? Thanks in advance. The maintenance plan that is available has a few terms to choose from. They all cover the same items which are outlined in the attached brochure. 5 year good through (11/2023) or 75 k miles $2699.00 6 year (11/2024 ) or 100 k miles $3699.00 7 year (11/2025) or 125 k miles $ 4699.00 The Extended Vehicle Protection (extended warranty ) covering mechanical breakdown. The ESC attachment shows the items covered under the Platinum Policy. 6 year or 75 k $ 4900.00 6 year or 100 k $5250.00 7 year or 100 k $5950.00 |

What strikes me is that the incremental cost for years 6 and/or 7 are minor. If you were to get the extended warranty, and intend to keep your car, then the only reasonable choice of the three you list would be the 7 year option.

I originally did a lot of napkin math to help me decide on what to do here, but I eventually walked over to getting it for a few reasons.
For maintenance the value will come in based on if you are a higher mileage driver (since it covers up to 12 service intervals) and if your car isn’t under BMW Value Service or your dealers don’t participate. Based on my revised information I think it will be worth it, but just ballpark how many services you think you’ll hit and what you’ll encounter. Since you’re driving an M I think you’ll need plugs every 30K compared to my 60K, for instance, and be able to extract additional value. Quote:
