...
I figured it out, this BMW I will own (yes, it was ordered yesterday) is actually from Jan 2007, and it seems that they updated this detail. I guess they figured it was redundant to have it in the 2 places.
All from 2007-2008 (before the new I-drive with all the shortcuts) have it this way. I had been primarly looking at 2006 models, so I was surprised when I saw that it was missing that button. I am glad all the functionality is still there Looking forward to try it! But I'll have to wait around 2 weeks until it is ready... |

UPDATED List of BMW iDrive Voice Commands (CIC iDrive)
Taking the original post to the next step, I have created updated BMW iDrive Voice Commands cheat sheets.
These versions are based on the online US 3 Series E90/E91 User's Manual (MY2010), as well as my hardcopy Australian Manual. They include all the commands listed in the Short commands for the voice activation system reference chapter, as well as some space for entering Favorites (eg. "Display off" to turn iDrive off). I believe these commands apply to the 2nd generation CIC iDrive (Car Information Computer) introduced in September 2008 (but they may also work for the older iDrive/Voice system?). There are slight country differences in options (TV, Satellite radio) and command terminology ("Destination input" vs "Enter address"). The documents are written using Word 2007 but are saved in Word 97-2003 (.doc) and PDF formats. There are 2 different versions (x 2 formats): (1) Australia in A4 size (2) USA (and Canada?) in Letter size Readers from other countries may download one of the documents and modify it to their requirements. Readers using the older generation iDrive/Voice system may continue to use the commands from the original post. Feel free to download and try it out. |

iPod Voice Controls
I guess I'm kind of bringing up a dead thread, but I found some cool voice controls for my iPod that I didn't see listed here.
When you are on the screen to select artist/album/song/etc. you can hit the voice button and say "select artist". Say your artist then it will ask for another option or you can say "start playback". I usually say "all albums" select my album then say "start playback." Boom done! So much faster than scrolling or entering it in by letter. P.S. The system is actually pretty good at picking the right artist as long as you enunciate well. |
