You have to state your issues for anyone to attempt fix them...

335d_go_wow - welcome to the e90post

I do mine at westlake smog

Best time is M-F, 20-30 min after opening time.
Tell owner you have coupon (no need to actually have one) - the price is $45.

I can also run ISTA to check if all monitors are happy for smog.

I wonder how much of that $45 goes to the business owner. In Texas, emission check is $25 for a gasser if you're in a county requiring emission check.

Is getting smog tested any different than having the state computer read your OBD data? thanks

BB_cuda - short version:

California state charges $8.25 Certificate Fee gas & diesel
Everything else is business owner revenue.
In SF Bay Area smog rates start from $69.

The smog consists of
- reading ODB data and transmitting it to the state records
- cat, DPF, EGR, vacuum lines, turbo, etc visual inspection - for tampering/modifications
- older cars may need EVAP test, usually cost extra

I tried to cover high level CA smog summary for both gas and diesel for BB_cuda

Yes, EVAP is for gas.

I had 1994 Accord - smog station would test gas cap and charge extra for it.
At some point of time they were putting car on the dyno and test tailpipe emissions and idle and the at load at 25mph. not sure if this is still the case for older cars.

I since moved to rural area - no more smog for my garage, at least until new CA law
