Is the rear on the Xi higher than on the i??
I presume the 335xi spring is taller than the 335i spring?
Strange one this, but I have just put some M3 wheels on my E91, they came with the M3 tyres though which are 245/40/18 and 265/40/18, plus the offsets are pretty aggressive at 29 and 23 rear. So with this aggressive offset and the extra profile on the tyre I am getting rubbing, on the rears only, when going over speed bumps etc. I know Alpina use this tyre size and they also use the xi springs, so I am guessing that I could just put the Xi springs on from a 335i, or even a 335d as I guess this would be stiffer for the extra weight. Has anyone compared the length of the 335i spring with a 335xi spring? I am guessing 3/4" would sort it. Oh, and the reason I am thinking springs rather than changing the tyres is the car rides spot on now, it is very comfy with excellent turn in and feels like a proper BMW again. Think it would look OK with an extra 3/4" on the rear?? |

It sounds to me like the rear tires are an inch too tall. They should be 265/35/18 as opposed to the 40 profile that you have now. I know you said that you like the way it rides on these tires now, but it's not right for your speedometer either.

I know, having said that the speedo now reads 81mph at 80mph on the gps instead of reading 84mph, so it is actually better.
Alpina use this size on the E90/91 with M-Sport (Bilstein gas shocks) and Eibach (6cl Xi model) springs and they get stunning reviews compared with the BMW, even though it is all stuff out of the BMW parts bin, just put together with comfort/performance in mind rather than cost (read that as shitty run flats!!). I would like to try it, and it may not work, but worth a go if I know the Xi spring is higher or/and firmer, but not worth doing if it isn't. |
