Dash lights only come on if I hit dash quite hard!

Hi, my ageing 2005 e90 330D has been sat around for a couple of weeks whilst I've been on holiday. I got in tonight and realised that, although the external lights worked ok, all the dash lights/tacho/rev counter etc were off. I solved this by giving the top of the dash a harsh thump and they all came on again.

After my short journey, I parked up and left it for a couple of hours. I get in and again the dash is off. I hit the dash quite hard and they all come on again...what is this likely to be? I'm guessing some loose connection or maybe something affected by the heavy rain lately (??) but where do I start with fixing it?

Try unscrewing the cluster and pulling it out then have a fiddle with the connectors on the back.
