USB Music. I'm lost. Need help!
Greetings to all.
I have been researching for countless hours these past 2 weeks. Read pretty much every thread in this forum related to CIC and sound but I can honestly say I am more confused than before. Bought an 2010 E90 LCI 2 weeks ago, and discovered that it doesn't have a USB port in the armrest. The car has the following. - CIC with 6,5" screen. - Professional Headunit - Voice commands (although it obviously has issues with my accent :P) - Bluetooth for phonecalls - CD Changer Preparation (according to the VIN decoder) I have a MOST unit in the boot and a USB in the glovebox. (which after reading I found out is only for updating Navigation maps) What I want to be able to do is play MP3s from a USB stick and control the functions using the Steering wheel controls. If what I understood is correct, I need a Combox retrofit with the USB cables run to the armrest, and buy the AUX/USB port. (And coding afterwards) But I am not certain about all this... Does anyone have part numbers of the items I'll need? Or be able to deffinitevely tell me that this can be done using this and that? Sidenote. I really don't care about bluetooth streaming (for now at least), or android car play. My metal music is not available on Spotify and other such services so I have it all on MP3. Any help will be really appreciated. |

From what I understand you can also download some music
to the hardrive for playback.(Using the glove box usb) A combox gives usb , bluetooth phone , streaming music with the proper level software in both the cic and combox. (You may already have a combox it may not be enabled if you just want usb a mulf 2 Hi supports usb) Also you can get on of these but you may need a Icom cable to enable it. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1499808 You need to find out which modules you have in the trunk. There are retrofit thread here and at the idrive and coding subforums already on this subject. https://www.1addicts.com/forums/atta...7&d=1248675090 https://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=122 https://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=368 Last edited by ctuna; 04-22-2020 at 12:32 PM.. |

If you get a usb stick, Create a folder on the stick & put your music in the folder, Connect to usb in glovebox, You can then store it on the cic unit hard drive & change tracks with steering wheel controls.

That was one of my options but I would prefer an OEM solution if possible. Another option would be an Xtrons unit to replace the CIC screen alltogether. Weirdly enough my CIC does not have the hard drive option for music. It is the single DIN unit and from what I've read, only the double DIN units have the hard drive available for music playback. Pictures of the unit in the boot and the headunit. I'll start reading the links you posted. |

Don't have that option. The USB in the glovebox doesn't even get recognised. And I can't copy music from a CD onto the car either. (Tried both Audio and MP3) |

I have tried (all) the VIN decoders myself but can't make sense of the equipment I have. According to them I don't have Voice commands for example, but I have tried them and they work. |

Update: No MULF 2 Hi in the car unfortunately.
Just to add that I have ready through everything in the forum regarding retrofits going back almost 10 years. But noone seemed to either have my setup, or want to install what I want to. Most were doing a CCC to CIC retrofit (that included everything) or wanted to add Bluetooth streaming to CIC... Unless I'm just stupid and didn't understand what I was reading. Also, the first thing I read was the car manual... Posting this was my last option after 2 weeks of research. |

I haven't done this but I read here that others had success with this...
Since you have the provisions for the 6 CD changer which is a USB device, you could hook up an USB HD or SSD drive with your music on it and play and select music via the HU. There should be other threads here about doing this. As I understand it you merely need the USB connector to do it. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...USB+Hard+Drive Last edited by opjose; 04-23-2020 at 01:54 AM.. |

What I want to do is 6FL retrofit apparently. I am grateful my friend. So all I need is the MULF2-Hi module, the AUX/USB armrest port, and some cabling and coding. Off to Ebay for the parts. I'll keep this post updated. |

So MULF2-Hi module ordered.
Got lucky and found one with the bracket and another TCU module for the same price as a MULF2 on it's own. I'm trying to sort out what cabnles I need now. Is it possible to replace the TCU module with the MULF2? If that's the case, I would only need the AUX/USB cable to go to the centre console and rerouting the AUX cable from the headunit to the MULF2-Hi in the boot. I know TCU handles BMW Assist but I really don't care about that, and will never use it. I think... |
