Exclamation Bmw E90 Rough Idle, Vanos?

Hello all,

I just recently purchased a BMW e90 and was wondering if it had a Vanos solenoid issue. It seems to just appear when the cold weather has been in effect. The RPMs will be normal then dive down and shoot up for a sec, the car is obviously running rough, it will sputter (not sure if it's a misfire so please let me know). The car only does this when cold and will do it about once every 5 cold starts. This video shows the worst one I've had.

The car is fbo so not cats, didn't know if that had any effect on my idle. once warmed up it will not do this whatsoever.

I can't seem to get a file with audio, If you're interested I will email it to you or if I find out how to do it in this thread. Here is the link for the video.

I will try and answer any questions, thank you all for the help

I have evap leak codes. I'm assuming it might be my gas cap or evap like the purge valve? I have:

P0440
P0442
P0456

My interpretation of the Code Definition and Fault Info sheet linked below is that the DMTL Valve (at the DMTL Pump) is stuck CLOSED. That is NOT the "Purge Valve" at the Intake Manifold, but the other end of the car.

Here's the BMW Fault Code Lookup Definition and Fault Info LINK for P0440 which P-code is SAME as Hex-code "2A1A":
2A1A | DME: Tank-venting system, function | msd80
https://bmwfault.codes/XMLDiagView?d...UAMgA5ADAANAA=

Although I do NOT have an N54 with MSD80 DME Variant, my guess would be that INPA or ISTA could Activate the Tank Vent Valve and test it, without having to take anything apart to do Initial Diagnosis. ISTA also has the wirng diagram showing the three separate components of the DMTL: (1) Pump, (2) Valve, & (3) Heating Element, ALL powered by same fuse, but activated separately by DME with three separate Ground Signal wires.

There are OTHER P-codes for Purge Valve Fault. The three codes you list are NOT related to Purge Valve according to Bentley Fault Code Definitions.

Thanks for the help! I have the n55. I do now believe that is the tank vent valve. When I am feeling, sometimes my gas will make it click even if it's a gallon. My code reader just says small evap leak and I assumed that it's stuck in the closed position.
