Getting a 335D…

Hey guys, i'm looking to pick up a 2010 335D with around 44k miles. My first diesel but i've had several BMW's. The car has been dealer serviced religiously up until now. Last service was done recently.

I plan on doing a PPI to make sure everything checks out. The car wasn't driven much in the last couple of years, but it was serviced regardless of not doing many miles.

I plan on changing the transmission fluid, diff fluid and anything else that hasn't been changed in the last couple of years. I do plan on eventually doing a EGR/DPF/SCR delete but with the miles being os low maybe i should leave it as is? Anything else i should do or look for? Thanks!

Make sure you inspect the harmonic balancer. Any huge cracks and it needs to be replaced or else it will leave you stranded. Even if you're only at 44k, that HB is 11 years old. I'd definitely plan on a replacement.

it may sound obvious, but in my case both fuel and air filters were way overdue.

my diff fluid looked acceptable at 135K miles. perhaps you can hold on to diff fluid up until 100K

other than that - do not let it sit - drive and enjoy it!
congrats!

This car has a ton of service history on carfax. Its been serviced by BMW at least a couple times a year, every year. I do see air filter and cabin filter changed recently. It shows the fuel filter was last changed 8k miles ago but that was back in 2018.

There were a couple services done this year and the oil was changed 700 miles ago. Either way i plan on changing all the fluids and since the car is over 11 years old, i'll change the diff fluid while im doing the transmission. This will be my daily commuter so it will get driven!

You should focus on replacing the known failure points on the car before fluids as it only has 44k miles. Also, the sooner you can perform the emission deletes the better. The longer you wait to delete the more CBU you will have to deal with.
