I know this topic’s been discussed a lot but I couldn’t find anything matching my experience. After replacing my thermostat and water pump about half a year ago, my coolant expansion tank blew at the seams so I replaced it. Today after about 3ish hours of driving in about 30 min fwy distances, I got the coolant temp light and limp mode, as well as the low coolant light when I shut off the car. Luckily no red warnings but I checked under the hood and saw similar splatters and coolant around the seams of the expansion tank but no full on squirting like the first tank. Also, the warning light went away after about 5 min. The oil temp didn’t budge throughout the whole ordeal. Was this just an unluckily crappy tank or is there some other issue?

OE or Mahle/Behr (they manufacture it for BMW). With BMW you really don't want to go cheap or unknown brands.

There are systems on a BMW that you don't go cheap on and #1 on the list is the cooling system.
