Projectors
Hi all,
I am finishing a remodel of my theater space. I currently have a Sony Hw65ES with a 120" Black diamond. I'm thinking about going 4k ultra short throw or getting a VPL695ES. I guess i would go with the LG HU85LA and a CLR screen from wherever. Anyone make either change? Sony 1080p to a 4k UST or a Sony 4K? Looking to get an experience from a non professional AV type on the AV forums.. JVC is not an option. Thanks |

I was gonna say to goto projectorcentral.com and they have a calculator that you enter your room dimensions and it'll tell you what's best suited for your space. I ended up going with an Epson 4K myself projecting onto a home made anamorphic screen using two layers of spandex over a wood frame.

short throw @ 12'' from the screen and something like a ceiling mounted should get different screen, the 'crystals' orientation is not the same.
If you go custom route with spandex, imo is the best way for custom seize . Since there's too many video/movies screen format nowadays, and wanted a clean look in my basement, I did go cheap, aka paint. Benjamin Moore Aura 2112-60 cement grey, eggshell. And 24'' ceiling and wall around the screen with flat matt black . The image is very clean. I did some tries and error with some painted gypse and the 2112-60 was giving a nice result. Bonus, no empty screen bars. I have a old white screen for school projectors, and damn I didn't see much difference but the brightness. which i dont care, I dont have any windows in my basement. Anyway, it could be a nice ''temporary'' solution before hitting on a screen. This was my initial intention since my wall is only 93'', but Ill keep the paint for a while. Im using a BenQ HT3550 4k projector, @0 optical zoom to get my 93'' diag. (I used the centralprojector calculator) |

I'm putting in a pool table in the rear of the theater on Friday. I forgot to update this thread. I went with a custom-built screen with black out panels. For the PJ went with a Sony VPL 715es. The package was roughly $12,000 which wasn't too bad. Brought the 665ES to my vacation home in Bermuda but never set it up bc we have vaulted ceilings in the living room.
