2008 328i N51
Hey guys long time BMW admirer. Just purchased a BMW for my son, but I'm hoping to learn a lot so we can work on the car together. Overall, Interior / exterior is clean. One minor issue which I heard is "common". "Lifter noise" other than that everything is great. 120k miles. any suggestions?

Welcome! I'm not too far away in NorthEast CT. Used to head up to Cranston a lot for work.
Lifter noise is common, especially on pre-2009 cars. The biggest things to watch for on these cars are oil leaks and coolant leaks. The biggest oil leak concerns are the valve cover (which drips oil on the exhaust) and the oil filter housing gasket, which can drip oil on the belts. Both can be done DIY. I typically recommend running Mann HU816X oil filters, which are basically the OEM filter. Other filters can crush in the housing and cause issues. For oil, run any 0w40 or 5w40 Euro oil. I use FCPEuro.com for most of my consumable parts, since they have a lifetime warranty for OEM stuff.
