OH NO!!! What to do now?

Start up the car the radiator light turns on, I think its probably cause the car is at an angle! drive around the block to pull the car into the garage. Open the engine to check the oil cap is flipped up wide open.. oil has stained most of the hood and some of the plastic toward the back of the engine. What to do now. 08 335i sedan with under 7000 miles. I am calling the dealership tomorrow to see what they say. One oil has been done by me. But it the cap was closed, I have open it numerous time to show off the engine since then so I know it happened recently anyone have a similar experience? Could anything be damaged?

You drove your car after the radiator light came on? Really?

Are you sure it's not really the low oil warning? Take a closer look at your operator's manual.

I'd go with: (1) clean the oil that spattered in your engine bay, (2) replace the oil you lost and (3) close the oil cap before you drive next time.

If you are not careful, its easy to put the cap on, tight but it is not seated.

The tread in the cap lets you put it on slanted so its seated wrong and could easily work loose. I'd just clean it and top off, then go clean the engine bay. Dealer will do same thing, save yourself money go to an auto store and buy engine cleaner and DIY. No damage if you only drove around the block. Yes even with low oil.

Warning……some engine degreasers are flammable! If you drive to the do-it-yourself car wash and spray engine degreaser on the hot turbo(s) you could have a fire and another bigger problem. My brother did this to his turbocharged VW.

Use something like Simple Green and a paint brush to loosen the oil residue.

How about the oil the brush can't get to?

Maybe its better to go to DIY but make sure its cold before you start. Yeah, I didn't think about the flammable factor that could be a real PITA and $$$.

I've been meaning to get the car detailed and tinted. I think i will have them take care of it. Thanks for all your replies. Just making sure it wasn't a common thing with those caps. I also check the oil level it was fine so it might have come loose the last couple days. Im surprised no other warnings came on.

your wierd

How can you seriously blame bmw for doing an oil change yourself? and having the cap come off. quiet frankly you obviously dont care about your car. How can you blame anyone but yourself for this. clean it up dry your tears and move on. You know what aa tuning makes a great oil cap buy that lol.

even if there was a warning light for a radiator. Heaven forbid the radiator warning light has something to do with a oil cap coming off.
