Anybody in Chicago area want to check out a 335i for me?
My first post here, so a short introduction:
I'm looking into buying a used BMW 335i sedan because we want to do some weekend skiing upcoming winter and our Lotus Elise doesn't really excel in either storage space or performance in snowy circumstances. Originally I was planning to buy in October, but hell, a couple of months shouldn't make too much of a difference, the BMW should be a blast ![]() Not around the corner for me because I live in NYC. So is somebody willing to do a global check out of this car for me to see if it's looks/drives OK? Because I don't really feel like flying over to Chicago based on only car salesmen-talk how perfect the car is, I don't know this company at all. Also a 335i owner can compare how the car drives with his/her own 335i, and I can't since I don't own one. Maybe a bit unusual request, but if you don't try you sure won't win. Enrico |

I purchased my car from Luxury Motors (Ohare) and you definitely have to be a cautious buyer. After buying it I found out it had been a BMW buy-back and that BMW would never qualify it as a CPO. This info was not given to me when I bought the car. 20-20 hindsight I should have ran the VIN through a BMW service check but it was a great price and I had great luck with used cars in the past (not from here but with other dealers). I did do a CARFAX check but that is another story, IMHO their reports are not to be taken as gospel.
The car only had 2.5K miles on it when I purchased it, I did have to bring it in for service because the passenger seat wouldn't move back or forth. Turned out to be that the fuse box assembly had either not been properly installed from the factory or on a previous service by the previous owner. I now have 15.5K miles and have not seen the service dept other than an oil change. So it appears to me that the service dept at my local dealer is better than the previous owners service dept in NJ. If you buy from them do not expect a great customer experience such as no walk-through, manuals may be missing (mine were), parts removed (my car was missing front license plate bracket so they removed one from another car to put on mine) and high sales pressure. All they want to do is sell you the car, after the sale is made it's like you don't exist. On the other hand I had been there a month earlier looking at an E90 330Xi, they let me keep the car over the weekend for an extended test drive and was glad they did because I had always wanted the sports seats and turns out I don't like them, after riding in them for an extended period of time I found them to be very uncomfortable (plus the car had a non-functioning taillight on the passenger side). So there are deals to be found at Luxury Motors but be very careful and do your homework. For me I think I lucked out, I have a great car with more options then if I had bought new for a purchase price then of $40k which was many $ dollars less than other cars with less options.

^ Great write up. Bottom line... do your homework anywhere you buy a car.

I've bought 5 cars from Luxury Motors and had no complaints
I'm a repeat buyer at Luxury Motors. Bought my 330 CIC with about 6500 miles on it. Absolutely no problems with the car. Traded it for an M3 that they located specially for me that had only 1700 miles on it. It was perfect! Traded that in for a 545 that ended up having bad run flats. Luxury motors had no problems allowing me to pick any tire set from other 545's on the lot and changed them over for me. I then bought an X5 4.8is for my wife from them again with about 7,000 miles. No problems. Finally, my daughter bought a G35 from them. It took them a year to get me a copy of the manual. All and all, I have had good luck with the cars and after all they are covered by BMW, so any problems have been fixed at my dealer.
I don't know how much money I've saved over buying at my current dealer, but it's been 10's of thousands of dollars. My suggestion is to make sure your happy with the car and get everything agreed to before you sign. They have always done what they said they would. I bought my E93 new because there were no cars equiped the way I wanted it, so I had to pay the long dollar. I work about 25 minutes from the dealer and would be happy to check out the car for you. Are you still interested? Have you considered a sedan with 4 wheel drive. They're a lot of fun.

i've lived in chicago my whole life and can tell you, there is probably 1 person happy with luxury motors happy for every 10 that has bought from there..90% of their cars are no good, they have some good ones in the lot at times, but i've heard wayyyyy too many horror stories, and experienced many myself ( i test drove an 04 z4 3.0i that shut down on the test drive, blanked out completely. I drove a clk500 in which the navi broke during the test drive. )
avoid them at all costs. they have something like 50+ pending law suits. |
