BMW e90 320d Overheating...but not?
Hi guys, have scoured google so finally came to the pros for help.
I have picked up a 2008 e90 320d Coupe, I got it for a good price as it has an 'issue'. The car tells me it is overheating, fan kicks in and goes into limp mode, the car is not overheating though as I have checked myself, take the cap off and its not boiling up, not overly warm, not overheating! Car actually cuts itself out sometimes when this comes up. The fan seems to have a mind of its own as well, car is sat covered in ice and fans still running now upon start up. From my research its either, water pump, thermostat or coolant temperature sensor? Is there anything else you guys think or can you maybe pin point it a bit more? I am not a mechanic but know the basics, I got this car cheap so its either fix up and run it or sell on for what i got it for depending on how bad this problem is. Thanks guys |

have you checked the coolant temp using the "secret menu" display on the dash? you should be seeing around 90-94deg once its warmed up. this is much better than guessing if the coolant is too hot by feel. it will also give you an indication if the tstat is operating
how many miles on the car btw? edit- temp sensor could be very likely from sounds of it. but check the above first and let me know here's a vid to show you how to access it. it's a bit fiddly but not too difficult https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgahBfcPJM0 Last edited by jacbo; 01-05-2022 at 08:09 AM.. |
