Paint Cost...
Is it just me, or has paint cost gone through the roof? I just bought a gallon of PPG DBU nighthawk black with clear. With all the activator and hardeners, it ran me a tad under $700 (or a tad over $650)!
When I painted my Eclipse Turbo, I bought a gallon of paint with clear and it ran me about $350 or so. But it was Sherwin Williams, not PPG, and it was over 5 years ago. I know petroleum products have doubled or tripled, but this is crazy! Did I get ripped off? So here is the breakdown if anyone is interested: * $250.10 - 1 gallon of night hawk black PPG DBU paint * $199.40 - 1 gallon LOW VOC Speed Clear (PPG DCU2042) * $ 86.65 - DCX-61 high solids hardener * $ 48.55 - DDR-1170 reactive reducer * $ 17.05 - DT-870 Urethane reducer * $ 31.83 - respirator ( i know, not a paint product ) * $ 53.87 - CA TAX ------------------------------ * $687.45 |

Well i remember repainting my dads boat about 2 years ago and we paid about 175$ a gallon and the clear was about 150$ Im sure the paint is still petrolem products so that is a significant jump in price comparing to what u just paid!
What are u painting by the way??

I found out those are retail PPG prices. I should have gone with Sherwin Williams automotive paint. What paint did you use on the boat and what type of gun? HVLP? |
