Wierd hesitation and rpm burst at idle

If there is a thread about this already I'm sorry, I didn't see one. Just send me the link if its been discussed before.

In the past, my car has made really hard and abrupt hesitations.....I didn't realize what it was at first bc it was so jarring, it felt like I had hit a bump in the road and the car had just lost traction for a second. The reason I thought this was bc there is a large bump outside of my parking garage that when I hit it while accelerating, it will cause a similar feeling inside the cabin. I could never tell for sure what it was bc it was so quick and rarely ever occured.

Yesterday though, while at a light, the cars rpms dropped for a split second and then shot up to about 1500-2000 for no apparent reason and then settled right back to normal. This has never happened before. Then on the drive the car did the abrupt and hard hesitation and then just kept driving as normal again.

Has anyone out there experienced this or can you point me to a thread that has discussed this problem? Is this a Procede issue, DP O2 issue, or something BMW needs to look at?

how often do you have to replace the fuel pump? i've read hat v3 (and jb3 for that matter) runs the fuel pump at a higher rate on average.

I've had it replaced 3 times in a year and a half.....twice this year. Its never gone out but apparently I've had bad luck with recalled pumps

the failures are warranty related... they are not on a replacement cycle.
I had a failure on my stock 335... its a defect in the pumps, there is a legal investigation in process against BMW about the high rate of failure.

the pump is driven by the engine, its not an electric pump... it spins at the same rate no matter what the tune.

I was contacted by an agent from the national highway safety that informed me of the investigation since I was one of the first people to submit an official complaint back in march of 2007...

Here is the thread about the investigation:
